Shealy receives Order of the Palmetto

Suzy McCormick Shealy, although bound to a wheelchair and physically unable to speak due to her battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), received the Order of the Palmetto Monday, May 1 from Governor Henry McMaster at the State House. A celebration in her honor was held by her family, friends, and the agencies that nominated her at Northeast Presbyterian Church at 601 Polo Road May 6.

Suzy was nominated for this award by Congressman Joe Wilson; Ann Akerman of both the Ronald McDonald House and the Walker Foundation which serves the children at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind; Brenda Oliver, Culture Arts Specialist at the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation; Dr. George Crow, pastor of Northeast Presbyterian Church; and Gerald Talley, executive director of ALS for South Carolina.
